Koenig Field Playground

Chartered in 1984 as a non-profit organization, the Foundation arose from the merging of the Edgewood School District with others into the Woodland Hills School District.  Monies remaining in the residents' legal fund, established to preserve the Borough's schools, were directed to the new organization by the original donors.  It was their hope that a central institution of social and cultural activity would provide some of the civic amenities historically afforded by the Edgewood Schools.

The Foundation's capital funds are invested by The Pittsburgh Foundation.  It is the Foundation's long range goal to build this capital fund to a point where its ongoing projects and programs can be self-supporting.

The Foundation has been proud to fund community improvements and programs such as:

  • The Koenig Field playground in conjunction with the Borough of Edgewood

  • Borough entry signs

  • A hay wagon for the Recreation Department

  • Marketing brochures

  • Silent auctions

  • Live theater presentations

  • An Edgewood photo contest

  • Edgewood calendars, including one celebrating the borough's centennial in 1988

  • Several annual celebrity film festivals at the Regent Square Theater

  • The message board in front of the Borough Building

  • The historical display center at the Library

  • A Boy Scout project to identify tree varieties growing within our borders.

Past projects which are continued today include:

  • Financial support for the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra

  • Chess program at the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf

  • Progressive Dinner

  • Senior Celebration Brunch

Future projects are limited only by your imagination and willingness to help the Foundation make them a reality.
